Mr Leo McHugh

Research Assistant

Leo McHugh is the research assistant at STIRC. He holds a B/Sci Genetics (Hons), B/Sci Computer Science, Advanced Diploma in Innovation Management and is a current PhD candidate through the University of Sydney in the field of Bioinformatics.

Leo previously worked for Australia’s pre-eminent information technology research organisation, the National Information and Communications Technologies Australia Corporation (NICTA), in the Symbolic Machine Learning and Knowledge Acquisition research group, where he was responsible for developing the use of artificial intelligence to solve outstanding problems in mathematics and engineering.

Leo works part-time at STIRC focussing on population statistics, and part-time at Sydney Bioinformatics, a bioinformatics consulting group based at the University of Sydney, where his major project involves the use of artificial intelligence techniques to reduce the current restrictive bottleneck in high-throughput proteomics technologies.
